Dental Hygiene & Preventative Care

Instructions Following Dental Hygiene (Cleaning/Prophylaxis), Fluoride Treatment and Sealant Placement.

Following a Cleaning

You may experience tenderness for a day or two. If this occurs, rinse with warm salt water 2-3 times per day. For discomfort, take Tylenol, Advil or Motrin as directed. Please call our office if you experience pain or discomfort that does not resolve after a few days.

Following a Fluoride Treatment

Patients should not eat, drink or rinse for at least 30 minutes. This will maximize the fluoride’s direct contact with the teeth.

Following Sealant Placement

You may notice that the tooth or teeth treated with the sealant feels different. Both the teeth and bite will return and feel normal again in a couple of days. You should avoid sticky, crunchy, or hard foods for 24 hours following the placement of the sealant.

Please call our office if you experience pain or discomfort that does not resolve after a few days, or have any questions regarding your treatment.
